On behalf of the Fredericton Firefighters’ Association, International Association of Firefighters’ Local 1053 we wish to extend our thanks to all those in attendance at the 2013 New Brunswick Firefighter Day of Remembrance.
Tragically, following the events of September 11th 2001, 347 IAFF members lost their lives including 343 FDNY Firefighters. As set forth and passed at the 2006 Convention in Toronto, Resolution 9/11 passed and was adopted as the “Fire Fighter Day of Remembrance”. The aim of this initiative was to solemnly recognize the day to honor fallen Firefighters (source: International Firefighters’ Association).
Despite the weather at this year’s ceremony, those in attendance overcame, adapted and reconvened the service inside the legion. We wish to acknowledge speakers and attendees at the service such as the Honorable Graydon Nicholas, Lieutenant Governor Province of New Brunswick. MLA York County and Deputy Speaker of the House, Carl Urquhart, as well as the family members of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
